Resistive Spot Welding(RSW) is a process in which metals are joined using heat from resistance in an electric current.

The growing use of advanced materials in the automotive industry has changed the toolset required by businesses in the automotive repair industry. In comparison to the traditional welding process, RSW provides a highly precise, controlled, and consistent weld. RSW is essential in the repair of metals like aluminum and steel alloys.

RSW has created a drastic increase in efficiency in the automotive repairs industry. Welding times are decreased up to 30% all while producing and applying heat more efficiently. The rise in efficiency in the production in heat means that less energy will be wasted in the welding process. The rise in efficiency in the application of heat means that not only is energy conserved, but there is a decrease in the Heat Affect Zone, which is a portion of a base metal which hasn't been melted, but has had its mechanical properties altered. The reduction of the HAZ means that the material will be less weakened by the welding process.

With the growing popularity of advanced metal, and its intrinsic incompatibility with traditional methods, it seems that any company which aims to continue providing automotive repairs or welding services to its consumers will need to make the change to Resistive Spot Welding.
